Day 31: The Trouble with Treats

I am a work in progress!
Gettin' stronger everyday!
So today, I was doing great, eating reasonably and then I came home from work, did my Insanity, and then proceeded to mess up ROYALLY!! I made some "healthy" goodies, but they proved too tempting for me. Which leads us to today’s...

Tip of the Day
Know your pitfalls! One of mine is “ if you have it in the house (or have just made it) you will be tempted to eat it!" And I usually do! The trouble with treats is that if you have them, you will be tempted to eat them. One way to prevent over indulgence in your temptation foods is to portion out whatever it is, and allow yourself a little every day, but not too much. Let me introduce you to my secret weapon!! I use this little pink pill container to portion out ½ an ounce of dark bittersweet chocolate, that I can only have after I complete my daily workout. Call it a little “incentive”. I can only have one serving per day, and it is only 80 calories! I usually eat it after my workout or after dinner with a piece of fruit or a cup of tea.
The other good way to prevent slip-ups is make treats and then immediately share them with someone else,  take a plate over to your neighbor's house, or take them to work!

FOOD
Breakfast: Apple-cinnamon oatmeal
Snack: Honey-pretzel Luna bar, ½ cup home made canned pears
Lunch: Beef stew & 1 HBE
Snack: Isopure chocolate recovery shake and 8 mini chocolate zucchini muffins! Ahhh!
Dinner: Honey-Dijon salmon and broccoli

Another sign I have up for motivation! Go Hawks!!
If there is one thing that I love it is chocolate!! And bread. Several weeks ago I made zucchini bread and then railed about how zucchini bread is basically just a dessert and shouldn't be considered a healthy breakfast option. But I LOVE chocolate and I have a great recipe for zucchini bread. It's also zucchini season, and I have zucchini to use up, so tonight I remade it, with a few healthy replacements.

Chocolate-Oatmeal Zucchini Mini Muffins

1 ½ cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup dry oatmeal
½ cup cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp baking powder
½ cup honey
9 TBS liquid egg whites
1 cup apple sauce (I didn't have any, so I used 1 cup pureed homemade canned pears)
2 tsp vanilla
2 packed ups unpeeled grated zucchini
1 cup dark chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 400*. Spray mini muffin tins with you MISTO.

In a large bowl, stir together flour, oats, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

In a medium bowl, mix the honey, eggs, apple sauce and vanilla. Add to the dry ingredients along with the zucchini and chocolate chips. Stir until just combined. With your handy 1 TBS scoop, fill the muffin tin wells.

Bake for 12-14 minutes until the tops are springy to the touch. Makes 2 to 2 ½ dozen mini muffins.

And then I made them, and proceeded to eat 8! Ahhh! Sure, they're not too bad in the calorie department, but that's not the point. The point is, give yourself a portion, and then limit yourself to that. Don't eat 8 muffins!! Grrrr. It's part of the process. I will continue to have my mess-up moments like this. Sigh.
Get up Megan. Get up!!

Great motivation!
DON'T QUIT!! I just have to remind myself that every day I am working harder, getting stronger, and feeling better than the day before. It takes time to make dramatic changes. It takes time to see differences in yourself. AND it takes discipline. Tomorrow is another day. And tomorrow I will find someone to share my mini muffins with, and not eat them all myself :)

When doing my workout today, and tempted to quit, I put inspirational pictures to help motivate me. I also need pictures like this one up, to get my mind focused on what I want for my body. Ideally, I would like to have a nice, feminine, flat stomach. I'm working on that. But 8 mini muffins doesn't help at all!

WORKOUT

Insantiy! Plyometric Circut day! Between my leg workout yesterday, and Insanity today, I don't think I'm going to be able to walk tomorrow!

Thanks for reading everybody!
