So friends and faithful readers, it has been 60 days!! And I would be completely remiss of my duties and pleasure to share
The Official 60-Day Before and After Pictures!
Yes, since I started, in two months I have lost 15 pounds!! I am SO stinkin' PROUD of myself for sticking with it, and doing so well, despite the slip-ups and inconsistencies! Crazy! I didn't really set out to lose a certain amount. I figure my body will stop at a healthy weight, and TRUST me, the next two months will take all my cunning and willpower.. but more about that later.
Next, as promised, more about the Glycemic Index!
The Glycemic Index, or G.I. gives a numeric rating on a scale of 0 to 100 on how much that food raises blood sugar levels. The higher the G.I. rating, the more quickly the food is broken down and absorbed into the bloodstream, thereby raising blood sugar levels. When food has a Low Glycemic Raing or LGR, it has a slow digestion and absorbtion rate, and the raises in blood sugar are more gradual, which means less insulin spikes, which means less risk of diabetes and healtheir wieght, which is good. :)
So weight loss is tied in some mysetious way to your blood sugar levels? Think of your blood sugar levels as how much energy is being transported and distrubuted throughout your body via your blood stream at any given time. Too much energy in the blood stream is bad, this not only means weight gain but also poses health risks like diabetes.
Weight gain happens when you consume excess calories. Think of calories as units of energy. If the body doesn't use energy (calories) that energy (excess calories) will be stored as fat. I don't want excess fat on my body!
The experiment; to see if eating foods with a low G.I. rating after 4PM will give me the results of weight loss in the short term, and weight maintainance in the long-term. This will be a especially tricky thing to try in "the Naughty month of November" – that's right November equals turkey month along with plenty of other pumpkin and fall flavored recipes and naughty temptations to face down.

Here's the great free app that I will be using. On your Iphone or tablet, search for "BioFit Low Glycal" and you'll see this little sucker. You can search for foods and see how high the G.I. rating is. Remember to adjust the time that you are eating if you are searching for a meal you ate earlier. I am going to use it as a tool to figure out what foods to avoid after 4 pm, not a bite-by-bite analysis tool. That would make me crazy! If you are looking at the app and scratching your head, it's true, it IS a bit complicated. I will use it to compile a list of foods that have a LGR that are ok to eat after 4. It's not perfect but that's what I'm going on, so take it or leave it!
Tip of the Day... or Hint of the Day.. today
The more calories in the food, the more likely that a good quality of them will be stored as fat. I am not suggesting that you never eat carbs again I'm just telling you if you're going to eat them have a slice of toast for breakfast have a sandwich at lunch but in order to help you lose weight do not eat carbohydrates after 4PM, choose lean proteins fruits and veggies instead.
Let me make it clear, I don't feel that I have that much left to lose. But I do have a certain ideal body type that I'd love to get to before I have kids. I always promised myself that I would, so in order to keep a promise to myself, and set myself up for success and working toward my ultimate goal of excellent overall health, doing away with my symptoms of Crohn's and need for medication, and naturally giving birth to babies, I press on!
So, as for today, the first day of the LGL experiment..
Apparently my dinner had a very HGL despite my attempts to be healthy. So I feel good about the food choice but I didn't check the GLR first. Oops!
FOOD
Breakfast: 2 HBE's, and 3 mini muffins with a cup of tea
Elevensies: a pear and a cup of tea
Luncheon: Pumpkin & Paremesean with WW Penne with Spinach** - super yummy!
Afternoon tea: Yup!
Snack-em's: a string cheese
Dinner: Caribbean Jerk Salmon Taco's with grilled pineapple, mango and coconut salsa.*** Again... YUMM!!
EXERCISE
I'm back in it, thanks to the Hubs! Today I did the Insanity 60-day fit test! I could barely walk afterwards. Yikes! But a good yikes! Just as Jason has been a distraction from working out, he is now also a good influence and a positive motivator. He goes for a run (I couldn't hope to keep up with him) and I did my workout!! Yay!!
** I got the recipe here! But I mixed in a 1/2 cup of chopped, cooked spinach. http://www.acouplecooks.com/2013/10/pumpkin-penne-parmesean/
***Here's the link to the recipe! Thanks Pinterest! However, despite how totally yummy the coconut rice sounded, based on my adverse reaction to rice and the fact that it has a HGL, I nixed it.
