This is my hubby, JASON :) |
I haven't mentioned this much before, but I have been married for almost 7 years. I haven't mentioned it much for the last two months because my husband is in the USAF and is currently deployed, and for safety reasons I don't like to advertise that I am living alone. BUT I have been living alone the last two months as he has been on a 6 month deployment. I have missed my hubby SO, so, SO much and now, he is coming home TOMORROW!! Whoo HOO!!! My man is coming back to to me!! YAY!! Someone to cook for! It's tough cooking for one!
This means some changes to life, to cooking and my routine, because thus far, I have only been cooking for one, but now, we'll double-up on to food prep, and the turn-over of how quickly things are consumed and how often or how much I'll need to cook will change. Double-trouble! But that means MORE dishes and MORE recipes!!
I can sympathize with those of you who may have issues with emotional or stress eating, because my hubby has a very dangerous job that takes him away from home on a regular basis, and for long periods of time. Actually for the past year, he has been gone for 1/2 of every month, and then a 6 month deployment. I have every reason to have emotional or stress eating problems. But I don't. I actually have emotional spending problems. I spend to make me feel better. I have had to stop doing that lately too.
It isn't easy to stop comforting habits (whether emotional eating or emotional spending), but just knowing that you are doing it, and that trying to fill the hole that your emotions are causing to make yourself feel better is either going to leave you with an empty wallet and a house full of stuff that you don't need, or too many L.B.'s on the bottom line.
TODAY'S TEMPTATION(S)

The day was chock-full of temptations! At Spooner Farms pumpkin patch they have hot chocolate, hot-roasted (and dripping with butter and salt) corn on the cob (which I love), caramel corn (which I love) and other assorted goodies including caramel apples (which I CANNOT say No to). Knowing my weaknesses, I prepared in advance and brought with me mini caramel apple bites with crushed pecans (they were kinda crunchy on the outside, like Almond Roca, and crispy sweet apple in the center). I only had two mini bites because they were just way too sweet and made me sick to my stomach. I realized that I really don't need all that sugar; just a taste will do.
After the pumpkin patch today my family went to a restaurant called "the Buttered Biscuit" - I should have been tipped of right there. Fall is definitely comfort fee season and I definitely love comfort food and don't mind taking part in it occasionally in social situations (if I can pair it with a healthy side dish, like salad or veggies) but a cursory look at their menu told me that nothing available at that restaurant was going to help me with my goals (there were NO veggies anywhere on the menu). I had to work soon-after, so time was not on my side. I made polite excuses and left before being tempted to order anything naughty (like a cinnamon roll - another weakness of mine).
The menu looks like it consisted of true comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, different variations of eggs Benedict (that is yes poached eggs with Canadian bacon but with hollandaise). I later came to find out that theri eggs Benedict did not come with the regular Canadian bacon but with standard bacon. Yes! Good thing I got out of Dodge when I did.
EXERCISE
I got up early to go to the pumpkin patch with my in-laws, and was on my feet ALL DAY. I didn't do a specific work out per se but I was very activem, hardly sitting down all day. The corn maze alone must have been a couple of miles winding back and forth (and avoiding monsters).
It's a lot of work monster-hunting!
And a lot of fun!!
