Day 63: Traversing the Battlefield

Hey faithful readers :)
So as you would expect, this time of year, just leaving the house sometimes feels like going to battle with all your senses picking up on the goodies that are quickly appearing left, right and center. The day was a virtual mine field of temptations...

At work
There was some leftover halloween candy, some of which was litteraly eyeballing me, saying "eat mee.. EAT meeee!". My favorite there; whoppers!

At the grocery store
When I went to get some sliced turkey at the deli counter, there was the fried chicken and jojo's. DROOL..

The ultimate wall of willpower.. Ben & Jerry's entire line up of ice cream: Caramel Sutra, Chocolate-chip cookie dough, Amiercone dream, Strawberry cheesecake, Chocolate peppermint crunch, Red velvet cake, peanut butter cup, Phish food, chocolate fudge brownie, mint chocolate cookie, pistachio-pistachio, chunky moneky, coffee heath bar cruch, half-baked, cherry garcia, and everything but the...,

I love ANY kind of ice cream, especially with chocolate in it! But B&J's well... Good thing those ice creams are all EXORBITANTLY EXPENSIVE or my willpower may have waivered.

Pillsbury's entire holiday cookie dough line-up: peppermint sugar cookie, peanut butter for kiss-drop cookies, and regular sugar cookies. All these were right next to...
Holiday-flavored coffee creamers: pumpkin pie, vanilla cremel and peppermint mocha, which was right next to...
EGG NOG!!

That's right friends, in case you didn't see today's date, we are 23 days, 14 hours, 51 minutes from Turkey Day!!  I am SUPER excited and a little nervous. The closer we move toward the thick of the holiday season the more temptation will rear it's ugly head. Buuttt, it helps to keep reminding yourself of your ultimate goal, which is opimal health, and NOT a bigger waist-line.

This MONTH'S Tip
Instead of constantly denying yourself when temptation rears, give yourself a Yes! This doesn't mean however, that every time you see a goodie that you want- you say yes, it just means that you plan ahead EVERY DAY. Yup, bring with you a couple of savory and a couple of sweet snacks that will satiate your craving for salty, savory or sweet treats, and when temptation comes knocking, pull out your planned snack and enjoy! It's amazing how this one little trick has kept me on-track for 98% of the time! I wouln't have been able to lose 15 pounds so far with out this trick!

My favorites snacks
Salty - homemade pickles, sliced cucumbers with black pepper, celery & almond butter,

Savory - veggies & hummus, sliced turkey, HBE's, string cheese

Sweet - bartlett pears, mandarin oranges, apples, no-sugar added homemade applesauce, Lara bars

Sweet & salty - homemade trail mix: mixed nuts, dark chocolate chips and dried cranberries. I only pack 1/4 cup of this stuff with me at a time, because it is SO easy to eat more, and the nuts are FULL of healthy fats (good) and calories (bad!). These are my "hunger busters" when I need to eat something quick to avoid making a bad choice.

I'm hoping to put up a few good fall-flavored recipies in the coming weeks, but I prepped so well for this week that I may have a hard time needing to make anything for a while. Stay tuned...

FOOD
Breakfast: scrambled eggs, canteloupe, a piece of toasted cinnamon bread with cinnamon-ricotta "frosting"
Snack: a pear
Lunch: quinoa sushi, a HBE and some raw veggies
Snack: some light eggnog (4oz) cut with light almond milk (4oz)
Dinner: zucchini lasgana and mini peppers

EXERCISE
Folks, I will admit, I am struggling!!! True I worked today, and I helped unload our gigantic truck of about 2-300lbs of gear, but no official workout today. I need some help being motivated here. I know wednesday night and on this week will be better, but I just don't do well when I have to work the same day, and there is too much going on. Lame, I know..

Shout out to new-reader Claire!! Thanks for the comments, and as always thanks for reading all!
