As many of you who read the blog know, I have been struggling with exercise lately, and of the three different types of exercise that I do throughout the week ( Insanity, running, and weight-lifting), weight lifting is my least favorite. I REALLY don't like doing it, and of the last month's 8 workouts that I was supposed to do, I did a grand total of 2 of them. Pathetic, I know.
I used to work out at the gym, where they had weight machines, which made weight lifting a lot more mindless. But, when at home, my equiptment is a bit more limited. I only have a mis-matched set of weights, a yoga ball, resistance bands, and a chin-up bar, plus whatever exercises I can do using my body weight. Any mass and muscle I have gained in my arms is (in my opinion) strictly from doing push ups and planks in the Insanity workouts.
I struggle with and buck against the dreaded weight lifting workouts!!! Ahhhhh!! I am not against doing it because I think I will turn into the She-hulk or anything, I just don't like doing it, I don't feel like I know what I am doing, and I just don't know which workouts are the most effective. BUT I know I need to do them. Having strong, balanced muscles is key to long-term great health, but I hate to do it...
So I'm bringing in a little outside help.
Let me introduce you to my "little" brother, Josh.
my name is Joshua Knoll and I want to share something that has totally changed my life forever.
I started bodybuilding about 1 year ago, and it has totally changed the way I think about my health. It is now my passion and I want to share the amazing things that I have learned about training, eating and how it affects health- with you.
My knowledge has come from my own real-world experience while training with and observing coworkers in the gym. I have invested real effort, sweat, and sometimes tears, to learn propper lifting techniques, drastically change my physique and earn over 30 pounds of muscle while on deployment to the Middle East.
Since my return to the US, I have been following a strict & intense schedule, lifting 6 days a week. I have learned from working with great gym partners, more experienced than I, and have been asked by many younger, inexperienced partners training with me how I have achieved my results. It hasn't been easy, and it has taken my total investment of time, consistancy, and pain-steaking focus of perfect form to get the results that I have now.
I gleaned the knowledge through working with more expereinced trainers than I, and regularly train with less experienced training partners, but through training them I have developed my own unique way of explaining the complex sport of bodybuilding.
I don't pretend to be an expert, but my experience and results have been eye opening, and I am passionate about passing on what I have learned to men and women out there who may be confused about how to lift weights properly, and build the physique you want; as long as you are willing to put in the work!
There is no "easy, magic formula" to getting what you want. Sorry, you have to earn it! But push through your own comfort level, push past the pain and you will surprise yourself with your physical and mental strength. Do as much as you can. Then, tomorrow, do a little more! Enjoy the soreness; it's evidence of how hard you've worked and how much change you can see if you push it to the max!
See you soon.
So my little bro Josh is going to be helping me (long-distance) with my weight-lifting workouts, and I will be posting what I learn from him about once a week- probably on Thursdays. I look forward to future postings, and hope there are those of you out there that find this helpful.
Just a quick recap for those of you following along..
FOOD
Breakfast: scrambled eggs and cinnamon toast with ricotta cheese (yep, I'm in a bit of a food rut)
Lunch: zucchini lasagna and raw veggies
Snack: an asian pear and a HBE
Dinner: spaghetti squash with meat marinara sauce (left over from making lasagna) YUM
Snack: home made, pecan-crusted, low glycemic loaded... PUMPKIN PIE!!!
I did a dry-run on the pie in a little, mini casserole dish (which turned out to be a nightmare for even baking and setting up time for the pie). It tasted great, but the pumpkin filling didn't set up properly, it was still mushy!
EXERCISE
Again... I didn't do one. LAME. But I also have a tummy ache again... not quite sure what is going on... I'm rumbly in my tumbly... if it settles down before I go to bed, I may just try doing a run/walk on the treadmill... I gotta catch up on my Harry Potter!!
Thanks for reading!
